It Took Heroes
by Chaplain Claude Newby
"It Took Heroes" is fascinating and, in many
ways, thrilling to read. Even as a retired professional military person
with 35 years of military active duty ashore and at sea, I have been
amazed to read former Chaplain Claude Newby's account of his experiences
during war--experiences of serving America by caring for the other
American Soldiers...who were and are American heroes.
--Admiral C. Monroe Hart--U.S. Navy (retired)
As a veteran of that Southeast Asia conflict, I endorse
Chaplain Newby's book. It is inspired of true life experiences. It is
accurate in detail. It is bold. It is stirring. Those who were there,
those whose loved ones fell there, those whose loved ones were affected
from being there, those who have criticized America's involvement there,
indeed, all Americans can gain understanding about America's fighting men
in Vietnam through Chaplain Newby's book, because "IT TOOK
HEROES!"
--H. Deloyd Bailey--Attorney at Law, Provo Utah
Chaplain Newby captures the essence of infantry combat
in Vietnam, telling the soldiers' story as only a soldier can, while
illustrating the delicate balance between the role of the soldier and that
of the chaplain. I know of no chaplain who has done it better. I wish he
had been assigned to that battalion when I commanded its Bravo Company.
His stories of combat in the mountains and jungles of Vietnam will
resonate with any veteran who has "seen the elephant" and will
surely help those who were never there gain understanding of what it was
like.
--J. D. Coleman--Lt. Colonel, Infantry (retired), Kelispell, Montana
"It Took Heroes" is a fascinating and factual
revelation of the Vietnam War through the eyes of an Army Chaplain. This
is a MUST READ book for students and veterans. A true account of the war
by Claude D. Newby, a two tour Veteran and brother Cavalier.
--Mike McGhie--Veteran, Reno, Nevada
