Chaplain Newby captures the essence of infantry combat in Vietnam, telling the soldiers' story as only a soldier can, while illustrating the delicate balance between the role of the soldier and that of the chaplain. I know of no chaplain who has done it better. I wish he had been assigned to that battalion when I commanded its Bravo Company.
