Washington D.C. Angry Skipper Reunion Photos
There were many times I thought about the veterans who served with me that had gone home before my time and those who were left when I went home. My wife must have gotten tired of me saying I wondered how they were doing and if all of them survived. When I couldn't remember the name of the city where one of my best veteran friends lived in California, she handed me an atlas and we started through the list of cities starting with an M. That was all I could remember, the name started with an M. As soon as I saw it, I said that is it. A call to information and within a few minutes I was talking to a brother vet I hadn't seen in many years. The next order of business was finding more of the veterans from Delta company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, and then finally, to arrange a reunion. The first reunion was in Boulder, Colorado with 12 veterans. The second was in Nashville, Tennessee with a few more veterans that had been located. We didn't know it at the time but another group of D 2/8 veterans had found each other and were having reunions, too. Our two groups found each other through a newsletter written by Ed Regan and a website created by Mike McGhie. Many thanks to Ed, Mike and the other veterans of D 2/8 who have done an outstanding job of locating long lost brother vets and organizing the reunions. The reunion in St. Louis, Missouri, May 13-16, 1999 was another great one and we hope to have more vets at the next one in Las Vegas, Nevada in the year 2000.
