VIETNAM "MOVING WALL" MEMORIAL

The 240 foot replica of the Washington, D.C. memorial, on which the names of Vietnam veterans who gave their lives during that tragic conflict have been engraved, will be on display at Mona Lake Park on Mona Lake, Muskegon, Michigan. The "Moving Wall" will be here June 23-25. The display will be just a short distance away from our local "Final Approach" park and its arresting display of a UH-1A "Huey" helicopter.

This will coincide with the arrival here of more than 200 veterans and their families for a biennial state conference of the Michigan State Council of Vietnam Veterans Associations.

Organizers are hoping Wallace Terry, author of "Bloods" the well-regarded book that depicts the experiences of African-American soldiers in that conflict, and poet Steve Mason, who wrote "Johnny's Song," will accept invitations to Muskegon.

The county's Department of Veterans Affairs and other sponsors, and also the more than 200 volunteers who will be necessary to make the display of this memorial a moving and lasting experience deserve a lot of credit for all their work to make this possible.
