| You know how sometimes, something seems like such a good
idea...................... This is the story of the little people.
My friend Danny, wanted a group photo of all of us from Range
Platoon, D 2/8, 1st Air Cavalry Division. It can be hard enough to
get family members together for a group photo, how about an
airmobile infantry platoon in a combat zone? Well it never happened
while we were still in Vietnam. This happened several years after we had returned home. Danny thought he could use his camera to make copies of photos to cut out any faces he needed for his group photo he wanted to make. It didn't take long to realize that getting everyone in the copied photos to the same scale size and near the same exposure level was going to be very difficult. Danny being the determined fellow he is, was not deterred in the slightest. After photographing many, many, photos, he was ready to start cutting out the individual images. Remember that these were going to be small enough to be placed on another photo from Vietnam that would make a good background. So the cutting was very difficult to say the least. When the cutting was done it was time to take all the little heads cut from the photos and lay them on the group photo. I give Danny a lot of credit for taking on a project of this magnitude and sticking with it. After many hours of work, Danny had put all the little cut out heads on the photo to be copied. Just then, someone, we won't mention their name, opened a door and the breeze blew all the little heads all over the place. Well, I don't know if Danny cried but I'm sure at least a tear formed in the corner of his eyes and he most likely said some choice words while looking for the little tiny heads in the carpeting. But like I said, being the determined fellow he is, he found all those little heads, put them back in place and photographed it for posterity. Here is the group photo, and that is the story of the little people.
You know, I think it kind of reminds me of the album cover from
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. |
