Jan. 1: Log day. Buzz in for E-5.

Jan. 2: Cut an LZ, bird came in with sodas. Rain.

Jan. 3: Combat assault, elephant grass. Heard movement, blew claymores.

Jan. 4: Cut LZ for log. Gook shot at Cat Platoon. Called in artillery.

Jan. 5: Found napalm bomb, called in artillery on movement, tracks 2 gooks. Jim O'Brien arrived Vietnam.

Jan. 6: Found fresh trotter. Nut opened up on a gook, hit the gook and the gun gammed. The gook moved and Bishop and Webb shot him.

Jan. 7: Firefight, short round artillery, 7 wounded, Jay, Rava, Redmond, Bishop, his assistant, Louie and Pop. Medevaced them but had to carry their packs and weapons.

Jan. 8: Combat assault to build temporary LZ Collebee.

Jan. 9: Built bunker and set out trip flares and claymores. C. O. and Mount 6 said it was the best on the LZ. Danny Bridges and Bill Dickey left for Vietnam.

Jan. 11: Enemy contact, R. W. hit. Danny Bridges and Bill Dickey arrive Vietnam.

Jan. 12: Found trotters, bunkers, hootches, set on fire. R. W. sent home, leg was fractured by .30 caliber.

Jan. 13: Movement on guard, shot duper and blew claymore.

Jan. 14: Tear down LZ, into bush. Left 6 men to watch for gooks.

Jan. 15: Saw wild pigs. Chuck went on R&R.

Jan. 16: Found VC village with ton of wheat, 20 pigs. Log day.

Jan. 17: Combat assault to east of Song Be, expect big ground attack.

Jan. 18: Near FSB (Fire Support Base) Buttons. Log bird came with scout and 3 cherries.

Jan. 19: Jim O'Brien came to field Song Be.

Jan. 20: Garry Bruckner left for Vietnam on 20th birthday.

Jan. 21: Melvin Chambless arrived San Francisco.

Jan. 22: Log day. Monkey running around in trees during guard. Garry Bruckner arrived Vietnam.

Jan. 23: Burned log junk, fire spread. CS bunkers.

Jan. 24: Found 2 log sites, gook R&R center, hootches and bunkers.

Jan. 25: Log day. Cat is ambushed, 12 wounded. Found 2 bunkers and 5 mortar rounds. Got 2 cherries for Cat.

Jan. 26: Got scout dog and handler. Yesterday Cat's dog handler was killed and the dog was making too much noise. Had to shoot the dog.

Jan. 27: Crossed swamp. Dog picked up scent, went on patrol.

Jan. 28: Log day, kick-out, lot of supplies ruined.

Jan. 29: Jake went in for CLC landed at LZ Harry and Buttons. Melvin Chambless at 1st Cavalry Division rear Bien Hoa, mortar attack.

Jan. 30: Company coming in to go to LZ Carolyn, Tay Ninh.

Jan. 31: Combat assault to Tay Ninh (in dog's head area). Log day.
