| November 1969 | The following is a digest of daily diary entries and
information collected from personal letters sent home to family members by
men in Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division
(Airmobile). I would like to thank Roger "Jake" Jacobson, as
much of what you will read here came from his personal diary, also Bill
Hahn, Jerry Deitl, Jim O'Brien, Robert Guildersleeve, Danny Bridges
and Melvin Chambless.
October 1969 Phuoc Vinh Province (? - December 16, 1969) Oct. 25: At CID (Criminal Investigation Division). Jake testifies about hand grenade (fragging) incident, 3 wounded. Oct. 26: Jake, going back out to the field today. Oct. 27: Had to pack up and move 20 minutes before sundown. Rain and wind blowing trees down. Enemy movement, tried to call in artillery, finally Blue Max (Cobra gunship) came. Oct. 28: Combat assault to backup Alpha Company, chasing 8 gooks. Rain. Oct. 29: Low on food and water, Rocky just about passed out. Oct. 30: Log day, Jake going into Bien Hoa to get Kit Carson Scout. Oct. 31: Jake in rear. Army band playing in front of mess hall. |
